What We've Learned

Over this time we have learned a lot. In Kung Fu we learned two new blocks and I did a 4 move combo. I also learned a bit about Leatherback Turtles. A leatherbacks shell is made up of fat, it is an endangered species and instead of having the nine bones to make up a solid plate on the belly the bones make a ring. And the baby Leatherback's go through childhood which is very rare called by scientists The Lost Years. Most of this I learned from Inside Natures Giants, http://www.channel4.com/programmes/inside-natures-giants/4od#3229727. I found out about a Snake from 5 to 1.8 million years ago called a Bluffs Down Giant Python which was said to grow 32 feet and 9.7 inches (10 meters) making it 78 feet and 2.3 inches smaller then the Blue Whale (100ft, 30.5) but there are videos of snakes 42 feet long. Apparently a Blue Whale is meant to be the biggest animal in history but a Dinosaur called the Argentinosaurus which is 20 feet bigger than an average Blue Whale. Also a a male Cat is supposed to use it's left paw instead of it's right where with females it vice versa. But my 3 year old male uses his right instead of left.

What We've Done

We did some knitting recently and made some collages. I did some observations of my Cat and his habits and learned the parts of an eye. The collage making was really fun we had fun and we laughed, an awful lot. The knitting got off at a tricky start but I am getting better. I drew a picture of an eye and labeled it.

Pasta and tuna

Yesterday I cooked a dish by myself (with a bit of help from my dad) I enjoyed making it and I learned from the mistakes I made. The dish was pasta and tuna and my mum wrote the recipe down so that I'd know what to do.

The recipe:
Ingredients
  • 3 bowls of dried pasta (light lunch 4 people)
  • 1 pot full of cold water and salt
  • 1 tin of tuna in sunflower oil
  • Half a carton of pasatta sauce (tomato)
  • 1 onion
Method
  1. Put a pot of salted water onto the hob and turn it to high heat to boil
  2. Get a frying pan, and put some olive oil enough to cover the bottom of it
  3. Peel and chop the onion into small bits
  4. Put the onion into the frying pan and fry it at lower/medium heat and stir it with a wooden spoon till soft and golden
  5. Put the tuna in with white pepper
  6. Pour pasatta and mix, add a bit of sugar or cinnamon (little) .Then fry for about 5 mins.
Once the pasta is cooked, dry it and mix with the sauce.
Thats all!

How to change a baby's nappy

The other day we learned how to change a baby's nappy.
Our mum put mustard to represent the poo. We had a baby doll to be the baby because our mum is an antenatal teacher and we learned a few things about changing a nappy, for example: We learned that you do not wipe a baby girl the same way as a baby boy. We had fun and eventually dressed the doll evil :-)

And here we are!

Hi we're Euan and Kier and we learn at home. I'm Euan and I'm 10, I play Guitar and I'm in a band, I want to be a Zoologist and a Professional Tennis player, I've been home-educated for 4 years now. And my brother Kier who is 5 has never gone to school. And we have had a sister called Anaïs. We are autonomous learners which means we learn ourselves while supported by our Mum and Dad sometimes even our Grandparents.
Learning happens everywhere and all the time.
